Ettrick is best known for being home to Virginia State University and the Petersburg Train Station. Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute (now Virginia State University) was established in the early 1900s. VSU was founded in 1882, and the college’s first president was John Mercer Langston; Langston was also the founder of Harvard Law School. In 1980, Vawter Hall and Old President’s House were added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Ettrick’s interesting history doesn’t end there. The town has a 123-year-old landmark—Campbell’s Bridge.
